Savannah Artist Chosen for New FX Miniseries “Mrs. America”

Three feminist mixed media art pieces appear in Episode 8.

SAVANNAH, GA (May 21, 2020) – Local Savannah, GA artist Deborah Sherron Miller has had her mixed media artwork chosen to appear in the new FX miniseries Mrs. America.  Her works appears in Episode 8 of the miniseries released on May 20, 2020 through FX on Hulu.

The show, produced by FX productions Canada, is set in the 1970’s and focuses on the life and legacy of Phyllis Schlafly. She was a constitutional lawyer and movement conservative.   She held staunchly conservative social and political views, supported antifeminism, opposed abortion, and successfully campaigned against ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment to the US Constitution.  The show was filmed in Canada and stars actress Cate Blanchett.

The art director for Mrs. America reached out to the artist through her Etsy shop in early October 2019, commenting on how her work aptly captured the spirit of the feministic theme of the show.

Ms. Miller, who works under the name Versair Designs, draws much of her inspiration from the female form and the environment. “My inspiration for feminine art came to me when I lived in New York City in the 90’s. The female form is free flowing and adaptive to abstract interpretations” she says.

The three pieces chosen, Femme One, Qua Femme, and Trois Femme, fall into the category of femmes which the artist crafts from multiple mediums including paint, yarn and reclaimed materials.  She tries to incorporate as much reclaimed materials in her work as possible, to reduce her impact on the environment. “You can capture a sense of depth with fiber and reclaimed materials that paint just can’t capture” she adds.

She has been an artist in the area since 2011.  Her works appear in Roots Up Gallery, Sulfur Studios Exhibitions and she also has exhibited at numerous shows in the Savannah area.

Her art, not limited to just mixed media.  Anyone interested in viewing and supporting her work can visit her website at Versairdesigns.com.
